Homeless Woman Becomes Twitter Celebrity

AnnMarie Walsh gained thousands of followers on Twitter after sharing her story of being homeless.

A 41-year-old woman from the Chicago area has become a social media celebrity after using Twitter to share her story of being homeless.

AnnMarie Walsh became homeless more than five years ago after getting a divorce and losing her job, according to the Daily Herald.

The Daily Herald reports she has been using Twitter, Facebook and a blog to share her story and let others understand why people become homeless.

Walsh, who suffers from medical and mental issues, has been using the internet at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library and other places to update her more than 4,200 followers on Twitter.

Eventually, thanks social media, a social worker on Twitter contacted Walsh and helped her get temporary housing.

Walsh is expected to speak at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 2 p.m. to tell her story.
