Girl Dies in Possible Murder-Suicide in West Side Fire: Police

Detectives were investigating the incident as a domestic-related murder-suicide, police said

Authorities were investigating the deaths of a man and a girl in a fire Thursday night in the Douglas Park neighborhood on the West Side.

Emergency crews found the 5-year-old girl and 51-year-old man dead about 9 p.m. in the 1600 block of South California, according to Chicago Police.

Detectives were investigating the incident as a domestic-related murder-suicide, police said.

Initially, the Chicago Fire Department was called to the home after the blaze began across from Chicago's Douglas Park. A firefighter suffered a minor injury while putting the fire out.

Investigators and first responders spent more than seven hours at the scene. The State Fire Marshall was still investigating how the fire started Friday morning.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office hasn’t released details about the fatalities, including the identities of the two killed or how they died.
