2 People Killed in West Side House Fire

An adult and child were both pronounced dead at the scene

A house fire on the city’s West Side claimed two lives and sent a firefighter to an area hospital, officials say.

The fire took place in the 1600 block of South California in the city’s Douglas Park neighborhood on Thursday night. According to authorities, one adult and one child were killed in the blaze, which was reported just after 8:30 p.m.

A firefighter was transported from the scene with a minor injury, authorities said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and the identities of the victims have not yet been released.
