Daley Appoints Boss of New Mega-Department

Mayor Daley on Friday chose the founder and former principal of his daughter’s Catholic elementary school to be the $147,060-a-year commissioner of a new mega-Department of Family and Support Services.

To save $5 million and eliminate 240 jobs, Daley merged all or portions of six city departments with responsibility over social services. They include: Human Services; Children and Youth Services; Senior Services; Workforce Development; Housing and the Office of Domestic Violence.

Fran Spielman has details in the Chicago Sun-Times.
