1 Dead, at Least 10 Wounded in Saturday Shootings

A person is dead and at least 10 others have been wounded in shootings across the city of Chicago on Saturday night.

A 40-year-old man was shot and killed in the 5500 block of South Shields at approximately 6:13 p.m., police said. The man was walking in the street when a passenger in a black or grey SUV fired five to six shots, striking the victim once in the head.

The man was taken to University of Chicago, where he was pronounced dead.

In another shooting just after midnight, five people were standing outside of a building in the 100 block of East 51st Street when a grey vehicle pulled up and an occupant opened fire.

One of the victims, a 26-year-old man, was shot in the head and was taken to the University of Chicago in critical condition.

The other four victims, including men aged 50, 31, and 33, were taken to area hospitals in stable condition, and a 15-year-old boy, who was shot in the left leg, was taken to St. Bernard’s in stable condition.

Police say that no one is in custody, and Area Central Detectives are investigating.

Here are the rest of the shootings in the area on Saturday:

  • Just before 12:30 a.m., a 34-year-old man was driving eastbound in the 3600 block of West Diversey when a person in a Jeep Liberty fired shots at him, striking him in the left arm. He was taken to Illinois Masonic in stable condition, police said.
  • A 28-year-old man was walking in the 10200 block of South State Street at approximately 12:38 a.m. when two vehicles drove by, with occupants shooting at one another. The man was struck in the crossfire, and was taken to Roseland in stable condition with a gunshot wound to his right leg.
  • In the 4900 block of West Chicago at approximately 2:15 a.m., a 29-year-old man was taken to Norwegian Hospital in stable condition with a gunshot wound to his left arm. The victim refused to cooperate, police said.
  • A 27-year-old woman was standing on a sidewalk in the 4900 block of West Monroe when she got into an argument with a man. The man then pulled out a gun and fired shots at her, striking her in the right ankle. She was taken to Loretto in stable condition, police said.
  • In the 6700 block of South Sangamon at approximately 2:49 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was standing outside when a person in a vehicle fired shots at him, striking him in the buttocks. The boy was taken to UIC Hospital in stable condition, police said.
