With just over a week before Election Day, the Chicago race for mayor between former Chicago Public Schools CEO Paul Vallas and Cook County Commissioner Brandon Johnson continues to tighten.
Early voter turnout for Chicago mayoral runoff election, which takes place April 4, currently stands at 77,248 ballots cast, with the majority of those being in-person votes, the Chicago Board of Elections say.
And according to election officials, that number is higher than the early voter turnout number for the Mach 2019 runoff election. Eight days out from that election, the early voter turnout stood at 50,304 ballots cast, the CBOE says.
Ove the weekend, both mayoral candidates hit the campaign trail, with each continuing to pick up a slew of major endorsements.

At the New Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Al Sharpton brought people to their feet as the longtime civil rights activist announced his support for Johnson in his bid for mayor and talked about public safety.
"Brandon talked about that on my show," the pastor said. "We are not the defund the police. We are the define the police."
Local
Meanwhile, Vallas received a national endorsement with local ties when Sen. Majority Whip Dick Durbin announced his support Sunday morning.
"I believe Paul Vallas can lead Chicago forward and be a bridge to uniting the good people in this city," Durbin said.

Early Voting in Chicago
Although most voters still cast their ballots on Election Day, Chicagoans can cast their ballots now, as early voting in all 50 wards began on Monday.
In addition to polling places in each ward, voters can also cast their ballots at the city's Supersite, located at 191 N. Clark St.
While the mayoral election continues to grab headlines, 14 of the city's 50 wards will also be voting in an aldermanic runoff race, due to no candidate receiving at least 50 percent of the vote.
For Chicago residents who choose to vote by mail, ballots can be returned to a secure drop box at any of the city's early voting locations or Election Day polling places.
Voters can continue to send in vote-by-mail applications until March 30, which is the final day the city's Board of Elections can receive new applications.
