Cheesehead's Cheese Voted No. 1

Wisconsin Parmesan named nation's best

So, apparently it's not all on their heads.

A Parmesan cheese from Wisconsin has been named the best cheese in the nation.

SarVecchio Parmesan from Sartori Food Corp was named the big cheese Thursday at the U.S. Championship Cheese Contest in Green Bay, Wis.

The cheese made by John Griffiths in Antigo was chosen from 1,360 entries.

Second place was "Classico," a hard goat's milk cheese made by Team TFI One. The team is a group of workers from Tumalo Farms in Bend, Ore.

Third place was a medium cheddar from McCadam Cheese in Chateaugay, N.Y. That cheese was made by Pat Whalen.

Sartori vice president Patrick Mugan calls the win a great honor, adding that the award will make consumers more likely to try the cheese.
