It's been a good week for Bryan Bickell, to say the least.
First, he helped the Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup. Then he signed a contract with the team that includes a pretty significant raise.
And now he cementing himself in the hearts of Chicagoans -- especially dog lovers -- by rescuing a pit bull Monday night and naming him Stanley.
"He was going to get euthanized last night so we saved him," Bickell said. "Hopefully we can find a home for him."
Stanley will be available for adoption at Chicagolovespits.org as July's "Bick's Pit of the Month." Bickell is big supporter of the organization, and features a special dog each month who is owned, adoptable, or needs some extra help and attention.
But aside from the dogs, Bickell is still trying to come to grips with all of the recent positive developments in his life.
"It's been kind of crazy, it still hasn't really sunk in for the way we did it, and to have this thing (Stanley Cup) right beside me, it's unbelievable," Bickell said. To sign an extension with the Blackhawks, which is something I'm really happy and proud of, maybe we can win a couple more."
