Surveillance Video Shames Man Into Returning Stolen iPad

Social media and a bit of public shaming helped a stolen iPad get back to its rightful owner.

The Batavia Police Department on Oct. 2 posted surveillance video to its Crime Stoppers page on Facebook of the Apple device being swiped from the counter of a Panera Bread restaurant.

That video was shared hundreds of times, and a follow-up post a day later said the "subjects have been identified."

As it turns out, the man seen nabbing the iPad contacted the owner directly after seeing the video online, the Daily Herald reported.

Detective Kevin Bretz said the owner decided not to press charges.
