Gun Charges Dropped Against Former Alderman Sharon Dixon

Sharon Dixon was charged after she allegedly approached Chicago police officers outside the 10th district with a loaded gun in 2013

Former Chicago alderwoman Sharon Dixon will not face gun charges for an incident involving police officers.

Still, the former 24th Ward alderman agreed to seek treatment in a 90-day inpatient program, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Wednesday.

Prosecutors dropped charges stemming from the May 4, 2013 incident due to changes in the law since the 51-year-old's arrest.

Dixon was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and possessing a firearm without a license after she allegedly approached Chicago police officers outside the 10th district with a loaded gun.

In 2009, Dixon was arrested and charged with DUI after being pulled over in Rogers Park. She later sued officers, alleging they treated her like "a dangerous, common criminal." She said the fact that she didn't use a bathroom during her seven hours at a police station proved she wasn't drunk.
