Warrant Issued for Parent After 11-Year-Old Drives to School: Police

A warrant has been issued for an Illinois parent who allegedly let an 11-year-old child drive to school.

Khafilu M.Oshodi, 31, of Round Lake, is wanted for two counts of child endangerment and driving while suspended, police said, after employees at the John J. Murphey school reported seeing an 11-year-old student drive up to a school drop off point.

School officials said multiple employees witnessed the 11-year-old drive up to school on Jan. 9 and exit the vehicle with a 9-year-old, who had been seated in the rear. The witnesses said Oshodi then switched to the driver’s seat and drove away from the area.

“Drop off and pickup are the busiest times of the school day. Numerous children, staff and parents are present in the drop off area. This irresponsible behavior could’ve resulted in any number of tragic scenarios,” a release from the Round Lake Police Department read.

Police said they made numerous attempts to contact Oshodi without success. An investigation has since revealed the vehicle involved was reported stolen on Jan. 14.
