Volleyball Player Demands Removal of Name From Gym Banner

A former Olympic volleyball player is demanding her name be removed from a banner hanging in a suburban Chicago gym operated by a coach banned by volleyball's governing body.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that in a letter, Nancy Reno told coach Rick Butler he does not have the right to display her name at Sports Performance Volleyball in Aurora. In the letter, Reno said his acts against her teammates in the 1980s, "are beyond reprehensible."

In January, the governing body of USA Volleyball banned Butler for life. The decision came after allegations of sexual abuse by him came to light.

A telephone call Sunday to Butler for comment on Reno's letter wasn't immediately returned.

Reno was a fifth-place finisher in beach volleyball at the 1996 Olympics. She is threatening to take legal action against Butler.
