A vehicle was speeding when it hit a curb and went airborne before striking the south wall of a home

Three people were hurt when a vehicle crashed into a home in the northwest suburbs early Sunday.

The incident happened at about 3 a.m in the 100 block of South Gilbert Street in South Elgin, South Elgin police Sgt. Randy Endean said.

A vehicle heading northbound on Gilbert was speeding when it hit a curb and went airborne before striking the south wall of a home near its basement, Endean said.

The driver the ran off, leaving a male and female in the vehicle. The two inside the car were taken to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin, where their conditions were not known Sunday morning.

Officers found the male driver several blocks away from the crash and took him to Saint Joseph as well, Endean said. No charges had been filed as of Sunday morning.

No one inside the home was hurt, Endean said. The basement wall was completely exposed from the crash, but Endean could not comment on whether the house was inhabitable.
