Two inmates who escaped Sunday from a minimum security prison in downstate Pope County have been captured.
Jerrette Reed, 25; and Kevin Rivera, 20, were captured in a field about a mile west of the Vienna Correctional Center in Golconda just before 9 a.m. Monday, according to a statement from the Illinois Department of Corrections. They will be escorted back to the facility, fed and given a medical examination before being transferred to a maximum security prison.
Staff noticed the inmates were missed from the Dixon Springs Impact Incarceration Program, which is part of the correctional center, about 5:50 p.m. Sunday, according to IDOC.
Rivera is serving a five-year sentence for the manufacture and delivery of cocaine out of Cook County; and Reed is serving three years on meth-related charges out of Randolph County, according to IDOC.
Illinois State Police, U.S. Marshals, and the Johnson County sheriff’s department assisted in the search. An investigation into the escape is ongoing.
