2 Illinois Universities Among 10 Best in US, According to US News & World Report

Two Illinois universities have been named among the top in the country for 2019, according to the newest ranking from U.S. News & World Report.

The report, released Monday, ranked University of Chicago and Northwestern University among the top 10 in the U.S. 

According to the ranking, University of Chicago tied for third with Columbia University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Yale. Northwestern jumped up a spot from last year's ranking, tieing Johns Hopkins Univeristy for the no. 10 slot. 

Another Illinois school to make the ranking was University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, which tied University of Georgia and Pepperdine University for no. 46. 

The ranking included nearly 1,400 institutions, which report data through an annual survey. The schools were evaluated on 16 metrics aimed at measuring academic excellence, according to US News and World Report. The criteria included class size, average spending per student on areas like instruction and student services and the number of retaining and graduating students.
