Toddler Run Over, Mother Charged: Police

Daughter was playing near the vehicle and was inadvertently backed over: Police.

A Crete mother is facing charges of Aggravated DUI after police said she ran over her 19-month-old daughter.

Yvette Y. Guerrero-Silva, 40, was trying to back a vehicle down a driveway Wednesday when she inadvertently backed over her daughter, who was playing near the vehicle, a release from police said.

Fire and police crews responded to the 1100 block of Main Street around 7:10 p.m. Wednesday. Holly Silva was taken to St. James Hospital and Health Centers in Chicago Heights, where she was pronounced dead around 7:40, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

An autopsy conducted Thursday found Holly died from multiple injuries from a minivan striking a pedestrian, and her death was ruled an accident.

Guerrero-Silva said she had consumed several alcoholic beverages just before the accident, according to a statement given to police. Initial blood tests at St. James Hospital showed she was above the legal limit, police said.

Guerrero-Silva is being held in the Will County Jail in lieu of $1 million bond. More charges are expected, pending toxicology results, said police.
