Why Women Dish

University study shows close friends increase hormone levels

A night out with the girls may help relieve some of that stress and anxiety.

A University of Michigan study says feeling emotionally close to a friend increases levels of the hormone progesterone, helping to boost well-being and reduce anxiety and stress.

Progesterone is a sex hormone that fluctuates with the menstrual cycle. It's also present in low levels in post-menopausal women and in men, according to a report in today's Sun-Times.
