A new site focusing on the stories and perspectives of African-Americans launched this week.
TheGrio.com will be a news aggregator, gathering content NBC News, NBC local stations and msnbc.com, and offer original content from contributors including activist Al Sharpton and Chicago radio personality Santita Jackson.
"TheGrio.com is the first video-centric news community site devoted to providing African-Americans with stories and perspectives that appeal to them but are underrepresented in existing national news outlets," said David Wilson, the site's managing editor and founder of Three Part Media, an NBC partner.
With a name having roots in West African storytellers who would maintain the "oral tradition and history of a village or family," the site will dive deeper "into stories of black interest that mainstream news outlets currently only touch on," a press release from NBC Universal said.
