Newborn Found Naked in Suburban Yard

A baby boy is “alive and doing well’’ at a hospital after a woman found him naked outside in the west suburbs Friday morning.

The unclothed baby boy still had some of his umbilical cord attached when he was found on the ground near a Wheaton garage about 7:45 a.m.

The boy was discovered by a woman who lives nearby and had heard her dog barking outside.

“The dog started barking and wouldn’t stop,’’ the woman said, adding that she then went outside to see what had the dog's attention.

“And here she found a little baby by the garage. She wrapped him up in towels and called 911,’’
Wheaton Deputy Police Chief Thomas Meloni said.

The child was breathing when he was found and was “alive and doing well’’ at a nearby hospital after paramedics treated him.

Meloni said it was "marvelous'' that the dog alerted the woman, who then notified authorities.
