Did the Supreme Court Make the Right Decision on Handguns?

The Supreme Court  ruled Monday Chicago's 28-year-old handgun ban violates second amendment rights paving the way for the controversial law to be overturned.

What do you think?  Should Chicago residents be allowed to own a handgun?  Does the ban help reduce crime?

"When will the 2nd amendment's intention, of providing the right to have a militia in the event the central gov't becomes too strong or oppressive, be twisted into every individual's right to have dangerous and unnecessary weapons - the type of weapons our founders couldn't have even imagined would exist? I have lived in Japan and Australia, where even police do not carry guns, and guess what???? Less gun crime per capita.  Wake up America!" - Anonymous

"I think Chicago will turn into the wild west with people running around with guns! It's time Americans realized that this amendment is outdated and out if control!" - Jason

"I feel safe knowing that the Constitution is still alive and able to still work as it has for 200 plus years." - Bill

"Chicago citizens have been able to purchase weapons and bring them into the city for years. Now they'll be able to do it legally. The only change is now the law abiding citizens will have the chance to protect themselves with less fear of reprisals." - Kim

"This ruling may or may not change gun-related violence but Chicago's handgun ban may have been a knee-jerk reaction to begin with. They should never compromise our Constitutional rights because of fear or political gain."  -Jason

"This is just going to make thing[s] wors[e] we think we have killing now wait." -  Patty

"I don't feel safer because I already felt very safe, if you know what I mean. What Kim said above is so correct. All one has to do is watch the news and see where all the shootings are. That's where the problem is, Duh." - Randy

"The bad guys had guns all along, and they don't buy them at sporting goods stores! The handgun ban didn't keep guns out of bad guys' hands." - Nate

"I believe... the gun ban had little or no effect on the illegal use of weapons. The Constitution gave citizens “the right to bear arms” and therefore the ban is illegal. As I see it, the criminal use of weapons will be “business as usual” and the “law-abiding citizen” will find it harder to sustain their “right to bear arms”. The forthcoming rules, regulations and restrictions will turn the law-abiding citizen into criminals if they wish to own a gun and cannot comply." - Phyllis

"I personally don't like guns in the house, too much potential for kids getting hurt but if I lived in a high crime area I might rethink that. You should be able to protect yourself." - Ida
