Former Olympic Exec Not a Player in 2016 Bid

Earlier this week, former Olympic executive Peter Ueberroth gave an unusual endorsement of Chicago during a radio interview. But as it turns out, he's no longer directly involved with the pitch for the 2016 Games.

A key figure in helping Los Angeles win its bid for the 1984 Olympics, Ueberroth stepped down from the USOC last October but was still expecting to play a role in Chicago's bid.

Columnist Phillip Hersch reports in the Chicago Tribune that Ueberroth is not playing "a direct role in any way" according to a conversation he had with Chciago 2016 chairman Patrick Ryan.

Hersch said Ueberroth had a contentious relationship with members of Chicago's 2016 committee.
