Ask a Chicagoan to name a BYOB restaurant, and their answer will likely be Tango Sur, a long-standing Lakeview favorite. The food is meat-centric, to say the least, with dishes such as churrasco (a sirloin topped with Argentine chimichurri), parrillada (a mixed grill dish) and bife Vesuvio (a prime strip stuffed with cheese, spinach and garlic in a white wine sauce) dominating the menu. You'll also find South American staples, including outstanding empanadas, as well as vegetarian-friendly items.
And, Tango Sur is not only BYOB, keeping your dinner tab lower than at most steakhouses, but the restaurant also doesn't charge a corkage fee. (Viva la Tango Sur!) Pop into the well-stocked Galleria Liqueurs a few blocks south on Southport Avenue before dinner, and grab a bottle of cabernet sauvignon or malbec from Argentina to complement your South American steak.
