Jim and Kris Duffy are self-proclaimed “kids at heart.” So, when this South Carolina couple built their dream home in Fort Mills, they aimed to incorporate plenty of “fun” in the blueprints.
While the 12,000 square-foot mansion boasts six bedrooms and nine bathrooms, it’s the jaw-dropping entertainment level that transports you to another era. Modeled after a New York City street in Mr. Duffy's old neighborhood in the Bronx, the couple created a town set in the 60s. It features everything from a state of the art movie theatre, vintage soda shop, toy store, English pub and arcade.
“We’re down here all the time,” Jim Duffy told WCNC. “We watch movies. We go across the street to the soda shop and have egg creams and milkshakes, and then we hang out in the pub and have a drink and listen to music. Oh, we’re down here every night.”
The estate sits on 1.5 acres overlooking Baxter Nature Preserve at the end of a cul-de-sac, according to listing agent Michelle Budd with Ivester Jackson Christie’s. The home is currently on the market for $2.5 million.
The custom mother-daughter-style home is introduced by a two-story foyer and a spiral staircase with wrought iron balustrade.
The library is built of handsome mahogany and features a sliding ladder, coffered ceiling, gothic window and gas fireplace. The family room opens to the kitchen with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, five-burner gas cooktop and double oven.
On the second floor there are three bedrooms and three bathrooms, a bonus area, sitting room and offices. The Master bedroom has custom closets.
The second living space offers a full kitchen, laundry, den, two bedrooms, bathroom, private entrance and a two-car garage.
