    As the Holiday season gets into full-swing, so too does the Hollywood awards race.

    Kicking the season of glitz, glam and backslapping into high gear is the Golden Globe Awards, the Hollywood Foreign Press Assocation's picks for the best and brightest from both big and small screens.

    Actors Kate Beckinsale, Peter Krause, Paula Patton and Jeremy Piven will announce the nominations live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Hollywood on Thursday morning.

    The first group of nominees will be announced at 8:20 a.m. ET, with a second group scheduled to be revealed during a live broadcast on "Today" at 8:38 a.m. ET. The announcements will stream on GoldenGlobes.com and at the top of this story.

    Director Angelina Jolie's "Unbroken," the Stephen Hawking biopic "The Theory of Everything," Michael Keaton's blockbuster return to leading man status in "Birdman," "Foxcatcher" starring Steve Carrell and Channing Tatum, the civil rights drama "Selma," Richard Linklater's 12-years-in-the-making "Boyhood," the song and dance musical "Into the Woods" and the World War II British spy story "The Imitation Game" are all favored to be named to the movie categories.

    "Game of Thrones," "House of Cards," "Downton Abbey" and newcomer "How to Get Away With Murder" are tipped to battle it out in the small screen drama categories, while "Modern Family," "Veep," Orange Is the New Black," "Transparent," "Parks and Recreation" and "The Big Bang Theory" vie for laughs and statuettes in the comedy races.

    "SNL" alums Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are hosting the ceremony for the third consecutive time. The popular duo has said that 2015 will be their final time emceeing the event. "Unless you want to be a perennial host, there's nowhere to go but down," Poehler joked during a recent interview on NBC's "Today."

    The 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards will air live from 7 p.m. ET Sunday, January 11 on NBC.
