AT&T's new Chicago call center will look to employ hundreds of people from the city and suburbs by the end of the year, the company said.
A ribbon cutting for the new facility was held Wednesday morning, as officials revealed plans to employ uo ti 500 people in Chicago's Horner Park neighborhood.
The company has already hired around 300 people for the new call center, 2401 W. Grace St., and it will continue hiring another 200 workers throughout the year, according to a press release.
The building, which AT&T said sports a Chicago-themed interior design, is a fairly nondescript-looking office complex in the Horner Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
Workers are expected to handle millions of calls annually using state-of-the-art technology, the company said. The center is the company’s most advanced in the country, Jamie Barton, AT&T executive vice president and head of customer care, said in the release.
“We’re proud to make this investment and create 500 jobs here in Chicago, Illinois,” Barton said. “We’ve hired some of the best people throughout the city to work in this call center.”
Gov. Bruce Rauner and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel both attended the ribbon cutting.

AT&T is still accepting applications for new call center hires at its jobs site.
