Weekend Political Events

On this last weekend before the election, Chicago’s biggest political event is Saturday’s Moving America Forward Rally with President Obama and rapper Common. The stage is on the Midway Plaisance, 1300 Midway Plaisance North, in Hyde Park. Doors open at 4 p.m. and tickets are not required. No signs, banners, or laptops are permitted.

The rally will draw Chicago’s biggest political crowd since Election Night 2008. But here are some other events and volunteer opportunities for Democrats, Republicans and Greens.

-- All weekend, the Chicago Young Republicans will be phonebanking from their office at 2768 N. Lincoln Ave. The calls begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday, and noon Saturday and Sunday.

-- This Sunday, at 6 p.m., the Republican Party will hold a Get Out The Vote Rally at Joe’s Bar, 940 W. Weed St., Chicago, starring Mark Kirk, Bill Brady and Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown.

-- Gov. Pat Quinn’s campaign office at 676 N. LaSalle St. will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Volunteers can join a door-to-door canvassing team or make phone calls.

-- The Cook County Democratic Party office at 664. W. Diversey Ave. will be open at 9 a.m., for canvassers who want to walk precincts for Democratic candidates.

-- On Sunday, 9th District Republican congressional candidate Joel Pollak will hold a Halloween Party at his campaign headquarters, 8722 West Dempster, Niles, with special guest Amy Jacobson of WIND 560 AM. Come in costume to the campaign office at 9 a.m. to pick up a walk sheet and literature. Then come back to the office at noon for a Get-Out-The-Vote rally, treats and Halloween activities in the office.

-- Sunday at 4 p.m., 10th District Democratic congressional candidate Dan Seals will hold a Get Out the Vote Rally for canvassers and phone bankers at the New Trier Democratic Organization Office, 800 Oak St., Winnetka.

-- The Illinois Green Party will be holding training for Election Day workers from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, at party headquarters, 3044 W. Fullerton Ave., Chicago. To RSVP, e-mail Dave Sachs at dave@jeremykarpen.org.
