Kye Martin is the Traffic Anchor on the NBC 5 Morning News and transportation reporter for NBCChicago.com. She joined NBC 5 in July of 2012, after four years of traffic reporting at other stations in Chicago.
A Seattle native, Kye is married to a diehard Cubs fan. They live within a Jay Cutler-spiral pass of Wrigley Field with their mutt, Bo. In October 2011 Kye was blessed with twin boys, Bodie and Tanner.
After graduating with a B.A. in Communications from Washington State University (Murrow's Alma Mater), Kye drove her Subaru a couple thousand miles South to begin her broadcasting career in Fresno, Calif., as a reporter at an all-news radio station, KMPH-FM. Less than a year later, Kye signed on with Pappas Telecastings' KMPH-FOX 26.
During that first TV gig, she figuratively (and literally) pet many-a-cow at county fairs. However, she did get the chance to cut her teeth on a few bigger stories, such as the Laci Peterson case. Eventually Kye was doing feature and general assignment reporting for the morning show. Kye also co-anchored the Midday News for several months.
Her next stop was Tribune Broadcasting's KTXL-FOX 40 in Sacramento. Kye spent two years on the morning show crew as a field reporter covering state politics. Kye met her husband at the gym where then-Caifornia Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger reportedly pumped iron. He being a Chicago native (her husband, not Arnold), Kye was excited to venture off the Left Coast and in July of 2008 joined Radiate Media as a Traffic Reporter/Anchor for Tribune Broadcasting in Chicago.
For four years she reported on traffic from the ground and the air. Kye is passionate about transportation and commuting issues in our area and is ecstatic to be a part of the NBC 5 Morning News team. She not only brings you the latest traffic information on NBC 5 as you get ready to start your day, but online at NBCChicago.com and @KyeCommuteNBC on Twitter as well.
