Illinois Races: Jesse White for Secretary of State

Despite age, Jesse White still has energy for running again

Despite his age, Secretary of State Jesse White isn’t ready to leave his post just yet. The 75-year-old Alton-native will be running once again in 2010 against Republican Robert Enriquez. During his last campaign in 2006, White gathered more than $2.1 million. Most of his major contributions came from labor unions.

An Alabama State University graduate, White was State Representative between 1976 and 1992, and was first elected Secretary of State in 1998. Before his political career, White was a member of the Illinois National Guard, a professional baseball player with the Chicago Cubs and founder of the Jesse White Tumbling Team.
