Pair Charged in Robberies, Including One Near UIC

Joseph Treadwell, 27, and Marlon Owens, 21, remained in the Cook County Jail on Tuesday, each on $100,000 bond

Two Chicago men have been charged in connection with a string of armed robberies, including at least one near the University of Illinois Chicago campus.

Joseph Treadwell, 27, and Marlone Owens, 21, remained in the Cook County Jail on Tuesday, each on $100,000 bond.

The pair were picked up last Friday following a purse snatching near Jackson Boulevard and Carpenter Street in Oak Park, the Oak Leaves reported.

Officials have also tied them to the strong-armed robbery of a student near West Lexington and South Loomis streets, as well as a robbery in River Forest.

Dozens of crime alerts were sent to UIC students last year following a series of robberies in and around campus. UIC police in November addressed concerns and confirmed campus crime alerts were up.

Police warn students to be aware of their surroundings and not to wear headphones or ear-buds when walking alone. They also urge students to avoid displaying electronic devices on the street and to travel in groups when possible.

Anyone with information about campus crime is asked to call UIC Police at 312-996-2830.
