Comedian Rob Riggle Shares ‘Advice' for Chicago Marathon Runners

Funnyman Rob Riggle is one of the thousands of runners hitting the streets for the 2016 Bank of America Chicago Marathon on Sunday, and before the race, he had some rather questionable 'advice' to share.

"I guess I've been running my whole life," Riggle told Runner's World. "I mean, not from the law or anything, but I've been running."

"A lot of people are gonna say, you know, it's a marathon not a sprint," he added. "I say, they are not interested in winning, so sprint."

Riggle, whose big-screen roles include Step Brothers, the Hangover, the Other Guys and 21 Jump Street, announced his participation in the Chicago Marathon on Instagram in August. [[393419031, C]]

He ran the 2002 New York City Marathon in 5 hours, 46 minutes and 52 seconds, records show, and clearly he's learned a lot of new techniques since then - follow at your own risk.

"Hydration - overrated. Shoes, shoe size - again, overrated," Riggle said. "If I roll out of bed on marathon day and my cowboy boots are next to bed, I'll put those on. I don't care. It doesn't matter."

"You want to wear the right clothing. Wool, I think, is an important thing. Some sort of itchy fabric. New gear - that's the time to try it."

With all these expert tips in mind, the former 'Daily Show' correspondent had high expectations for his own performance.

"I'm sure my body will quit at some point, but I'm taking off. Like I'm gonna be in the lead for a little while," he said. "I'm gonna say, 'Well, I was leading the marathon for a while.' How many people can say that?"

But in case of a dreaded marathon 'accident,' Riggle has a plan.

"If you have to go, like it's an emergency - in the street, and be proud of it," he said. "Don't be like 'Oh, I can't believe this is happening to me.' Own it. Own it. Do it, put your hands in the air, let everybody see like you just don't care."

Riggle, a retired Marine, is running for Salute Inc., which gives financial assistance to veterans, according to a marathon spokesperson.
