Chicago Police Officer Injured While Responding to Domestic Battery

A Chicago police officer was injured while responding to a domestic battery call on the city's South Side early Wednesday, authorities said.

Around 12:35 a.m., officers responded to the call in the 6400 block of South Kenwood Avenue in the Woodlawn neighborhood, according to Chicago police.

Officials said the officers saw a female victim on the street and followed her to an apartment, where the offender opened the door for her.

The offender then struck the officer over the head with a vase and shut the door before the officer's partner could enter, according to police.

The suspect then fled out of the back of the apartment in an unknown direction.

The officer was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in stable condition, officials said.

No one was in custody as authorities continue to investigate.
