Former Cubs Player ‘The Hawk' Signs Autographs, Pumps Up Fans at Sporting Goods Store

Cubs fans showed up en masse Monday evening to meet hall-of-famer Andre Dawson at Dick’s Sporting Goods in the city’s Lincoln Park neighborhood.

The former Cubs player, also known as “The Hawk,” spent time signing autographs and talking to fans.

“I have one of his baseball cards, I asked him to sign that,” said fan Clancy Rogers.

He also posed for photos and helped fans celebrate the Cubs.

“You know this is it,” Dawson said. “This is the team that has the capabilities to pull it off.”

Some fans at the event could barely contain their excitement over the impending World Series Game One on Tuesday.

I’m dying, I’m dying, I’m so pumped!” Marissa Martin said. “This is a dream, I moved to Chicago for this.”

Martin, a season ticket holder, will see two World Series games in person.

At Dick’s Sporting Goods, Cubs merchandise was flying off the shelves as fans sported their team’s colors with pride.

Jeremiah Zimmer, who works at the store, said it’s hard work and long hours but worth it.

“That’s what we’re here for,” he said.
