Chicago Police Credit Facebook for Helping Nab Suspect

One of two suspects arrested last week after detectives post surveillance video to social media account

Chicago police officials credit Facebook with helping them make arrests in a recent high-profile crime.

The department in the past has used the social media account to post announcements or charges in crimes, but that changed November 4 when the department posted surveillance video obtained from a nightclub of two men suspected of sexually assaulting two women on Halloween.

That same video was also widely broadcast in television and Internet news accounts, including NBC Chicago.

Detectives said they received tips from people who provided the names and the birth dates of the men who allegedly appeared in the video.

One of the suspects, identified as Greg Bogacz, was arrested last week. The second man remained at large as of Friday morning.

Police said the two women, ages 29 and 30, were walking to their vehicle at about 4 a.m. Oct. 31 near the intersection of Lake and Halsted when they were approached by the men.

The men grabbed the women then battered and sexually assaulted them before driving off in a light- or gold-colored four-door vehicle, police said.
