Twilight Star Surprises Naperville Family

Visit was part of Oprah show taping

A vampire and a crew of Oprah’s people gave a Naperville family a thrill last week.

Robert Pattison, who plays the hero of the Twilight Saga, Edward Cullen, caused quite a stir Tuesday when he knocked on Maria Mele’s door and strolled into her living room along with an entourage of about 12 people and a camera crew, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.

"It took all of us a couple of minutes just to compose ourselves," said Mele, 36. But once they did, they said Pattison was down-to-earth and very funny, even if he was only there for a few minutes.

Pattison was in town to do a taping of the Oprah Winfrey Show. Maria Mele and her family (husband Sam, 36, daughter Rossana, 13, and sons Michael 10, and Guiseppe, 15, and Pasquale, 18 months)  were the lucky winners of a Twilight contest sponsored by the Queen of Talk.

Oprah asked fans to write about how Twilight, Stephanie Meyers best-selling books about forbidden love between a teenage vampire and his human girlfriend, changed their lives.

For the Mele’s it wasn’t a difficult task.

"At home, we're constantly watching the movies," Mele told the Sun-Times.  "For me, the Twilight series has given me access to a fantasy world far from what I know as a housewife," she said.

Their essay was a hit and got them tickets to the taping of the show featuring Robert Pattison which airs Thursday.
