Man Fatally Shot After Opening Fire on Police

A man was fatally shot after opening fire on Chicago police early Saturday morning in the city’s North Side.

The man was driving east on Wilson Avenue in the Albany Park neighborhood when he hit an SUV and crossed Kimball Avenue, striking several parked cars before coming to a stop.

A police car witnessed the erratic driving and got behind the vehicle when the driver began firing at the officers, officials said. They then returned fire, fatally shooting the man.

Witness Douglas Quintanilla said he heard screaming and officers yelling at the man to get down. He reported hearing three shots before police returned fire.

“After that I ran inside because I didn’t want any part in that,” he said.

Two police officers were taken to an area hospital with minor injuries after dodging the driver’s shots, according to police.
