A Steger man faces charges for allegedly hiring his brother to kill his adopted daughter after she told police he sexually abused her.

Steger Police learned that Robert Deja, 45, of the 0-100 block of East 227th Street assaulted the 20-year-old woman since she was 16 and fathered her 3-year-old daughter.

Deja became angry, police said, when he found out his adopted daughter had a boyfriend.

He asked her to move out of the family home, then hired a hit man to kill the young woman along with her boyfriend, according to police.

Police found out about the abuse on July 13, according to a Steger Police Department news release.

Deja is being held on $7 million bond for criminal sexual assault and solicitation for murder.

In a written statement, police said, "The victim is now pregnant again, with either her boyfriend or Robert Deja being the father."

Deja is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m. Oct. 31.
