Chicago Ranked As One Of World's Best Travel Cities: Report

Windy City came in 8th place, only U.S. city on list

Chicago asis being ranked as one of the best cities to travel to, proving once again that the tourism industry can't get enough of the Windy City.

Chicago came in 8th place on the Lonely Planet's top 10 cities list, which was part of its 2014 Best in Travel awards. They cited Wrigley Field, Second City and several festivals as some of the hidden gems that make Chicago a top travel destination.

"The Windy City’s cloud-scraping architecture and world-class museums take centre stage, but the real fun begins after you check off the masterpieces," the website said.

Chicago was the only U.S. city on Lonely Planet's list, with New York and Los Angeles nowhere to be found. The number one slot went to Paris, France, and other featured cities included Zurich, Switzerland and Vancouver, Canada.

Our recognition doesn't stop there, either. The Chicago hot dog was recognized on Lonely Planet's list of "hidden foodie highlights" and referred to as an "elegant snack."

Between this award and Conde Nast's ranking earlier this month, it's safe to say Chicago is becoming a serious hot spot around the world.
