Kanye West Performs Surprise Set at Chicago Festival

Rapper helps close Common's first annual AAHH! Fest in Union Park

Chicago literally waited until summer's last gasp to put on one of the best music festivals of the season featuring the biggest hip-hop acts the city has ever produced.

Rapper-actor Common presented the first AAHH! Fest Sunday at Union Park, and an already-impressive lineup featuring the likes of comedian Dave Chappelle, De La Soul, Lupe Fiasco, Jennifer Hudson and Twista was turned on its head with a surprise set by Kanye West.

West's appearance went from social media speculation to a sure thing by Sunday evening, and many of his Chicago fans flocked to Union Park as word began to spread.

West said onstage that he was only supposed to do three songs, but he worked the stage like a man possessed in front of his hometown.

His set included a litany of classic and newer tracks from his catalogue, including "Jesus Walks," "All of the Lights," "Gold Digger," "Power," "Blood on the Leaves," "New Slaves" and a duet with Common of their College Dropout hit "Get 'Em High."

The AAHH! Fest benefited the Common Ground Foundation and Donda House. An all-ages community showcase was held during the day before the evening headliners took the stage.

Common said on stage that AAHH! Fest likely will be an annual event.
