6-Year-Old Boy and Man Injured in Oak Park House Fire

Fire Dept. rescued two people from 2nd floor house fire

Oak Park Fire crews helped rescue a six-year-old boy and man in an overnight house fire Friday morning.

Firefighters were called to the blaze a little past 11 p.m. Thursday, in the 600 block of North Humphrey.

When they got there, they found flames coming from the back of the home. Several neighbors and police officers tried to rescue the people inside, but heavy smoke prevented them from getting to the victims.

Firefighters were able to make their way to the second floor, and rescued a six-year-old boy and a 54-year-old man. Both were found unconscious.

The fire department confirms both suffered from smoke inhalation.

The adult victim was taken to West Suburban Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

The young boy was taken to Loyola Medical Center. His condition was not known.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
