Evanston Man Found Dead Inside Washing Machine

A north suburban man died of asphyxia in a washing machine Sunday morning in Evanston.

The 53-year-old man was found slumped over a top-loading washing machine in a common room of an apartment building in the 900 block of Chicago Avenue at 8:55 a.m., according to Evanston police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The man, who lived in the building, was pronounced dead at 9:05 a.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy Monday found he died of asphyxia from being entrapped in a washing machine, and his death was ruled an accident, according to the medical examiner’s office. Heart disease was listed as a contributing factor.

Evanston Police Communications Coordinator Perry Polinski said the death does not appear to be criminal.
