Elgin Cop Suspended Over Social Media Posts

Chief says offensive posts were "evidence of our officer’s intolerance for behavior inconsistent with departmental values"

The Elgin Police Department has suspended one of its officers over something posted on social media.

According to a news release, the police department and the city's Office of Professional Standards are investigating "objectionable statements made on a personal social media website."

Deputy Chief Bill Wolf said the posts were "evidence of our officer’s intolerance for behavior inconsistent with departmental values."

Officials say the officer has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing.

It's not clear exactly what the officer is accused of posting, but officials say more information will be made available at the end of the investigation.
