All Beaches Open for Holiday Weekend

Chicagoans looking to beat the heat Sunday by taking a swim or even a dip into Lake Michigan have their pick or where to hit the water. The Chicago Park District reports Sunday morning that there are no swim bans or advisories based on water quality.

All beaches are open with no water quality restrictions, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to the park district. The beaches at Leone, Montrose, North Avenue, 31st Street, Oakwood/41st Street, South Shore and Calumet are open at 9:30 a.m. for swimming.

Swim bans or advisories may be implemented by life guards at the beaches based on weather conditions, though. The water temperature Sunday morning was 64 degrees, according to the park district. As of about 9 a.m. it was 80 degrees in Chicago, according to the National Weather Service.
