Second Sonic Drive-In Opens Soon

Crave-worthy fast food coming to Algonquin

For what seemed like forever, Chicagoans had to sit through countless commercials for Sonic Drive-In, even though we didn’t have a restaurant of the chain within an hour of here. Most of the drive-in’s 3,000 restaurants are in Oklahoma and Texas.

Last month though, Sonic finally graced Chicagoland with its presence and its Chili Cheese Tots. The franchise opened in Aurora and was greeted by long lines of hungry patrons. What’s perhaps most remarkable is that Sonic didn’t spend a single dollar to advertise the grand opening. But thanks to word of mouth, hundreds of Cherry Limeade fans came from miles around to satiate their cravings.

A second location is set to open in Algonquin in late November along the retail strip of Randall Road. Expect to see a dozen restaurants over the next few years, including sites in Vernon Hills and Lake Zurich.

There’s no word yet on whether any of the new spots are within city limits, but perhaps it’s best that these oh-so-good but oh-so-bad-for-you treats aren’t too easily accessible.
