Carjacking Suspect Arrested after 11-Mile Chase

The suspect was first spotted by officers in a van around 2 a.m.

A carjacking suspect was arrested early Monday after an 11-mile police chase on Chicago's South Side.

The suspect was first spotted by officers in a van around 2 a.m. in the 10000 block of South Normal Avenue. Police tried to stop the van, but the driver took off.

Collisions and gun shots at officers followed as the vehicle made its way off the Dan Ryan to 31st Street with police right behind it. After 11 miles, the chase ended when the van crashed in a parking lot at 31st and South King Drive.

The driver was taken into custody, police said, and two officers were treated for minor injuries in a traffic accident after the crash.

Several people were in the van when it crashed, police said.

Police continued to comb the area for shell casings and other evidence to aid their investigation.
