The Chicago Blackhawks added a piece to bolster their forward depth on Tuesday as they agreed to a one-year contract with free agent veteran Jordin Tootoo.

Details of the contract were not revealed by the team.

Tootoo, who has played in 12 NHL seasons with the Nashville Predators, Detroit Red Wings, and New Jersey Devils, scored four goals and dished out five assists in Newark last season.

Tootoo will be joining a Blackhawks lineup whose depth has been gutted by trades thus far this offseason. Bryan Bickell and Teuvo Teravainen were both sent to the Carolina Hurricanes to clear salary cap space, and Andrew Shaw was sent to Montreal after his contract demands exceeded what the Blackhawks were willing to pay him.

The Blackhawks will also be looking to replace both Andrew Ladd, who signed a seven-year deal with the New York Islanders, and Dale Weise, who signed a four-year contract with the Philadelphia Flyers.
