Go to There: City Treasurer's Small Business Expo

Ready for another small business event?

More than 3,000 small business owners plan to attend the City Treasurer's Small Business Expo. It’s got networking, workshops, and products for all. It’s also free.

Also, the three winners of the Chicago City Treasurer’s Business Plan Competition – sharing a $10,000 prize - will be unveiled.

Within the 10 finalists there are startups and existing businesses, including the following two:

Miriam Cecilia: Local designer offering high-quality cocktail and evening wear emphasizing organic fabrics. One-of-a-kind fit and fashion for the high end customer, also selling ready-to-wear from $160-$400.

Uptown Soda Bread: Based on a grandmother’s recipe brought from Ireland in 1920, these artisanal breads go beyond the traditional ingredients. Modern updates include cranberry, cheddar-chive and chocolate chip. Creators are aiming for retail and café customers.

“These are the kinds of small businesses that provide a sparkplug for our economic engine,” City Treasurer Stephanie Neely said in a press release.

The winners will be announced October 7 at the Small Business Expo. It’s at the UIC Forum and more info will be available soon, but for now you can register to attend on the Chicago City Treasurer's website.
