Leave extra time for your drive to work on Wednesday, especially in Chicago's north and northwest suburbs.

A Winter Weather Advisory was issued from 3 a.m. to noon Wednesday for Kane, DeKalb, Lake and McHenry counties as a light icy mix of freezing rain and snow is expected to develop by dawn then fully change to snow.

The mix of precipitation could cause hazardous driving conditions in time for the rush-hour commute.

The National Weather Service warns of potentially slippery roads and limited visibility in some areas.

A slushy half-inch of snow will be possible north of I-88 on grassy surfaces.

Afternoon conditions are expected to turn mostly cloudy, windy and cold with a few sprinkes or flurries possible.

Temperatures range between a high of 33 and 38 degrees until early afternoon, when they begin to slowly fall.

A breezy, chilly Thursday looks mostly cloudy, then overcast with rain developing in the late afternoon and the evening.

Light to moderate rain showers are expected overnight.

Rain ends late Friday morning and becomes mostly cloudy, breezy and cool in the afternoon with highs in the low 40s.
