Wednesday’s rainfall lifted the month of May to the wettest on record in Chicago.

According to NBC 5 meteorologist Kalee Dionne, the latest system brought the May total to nearly 8.25 inches of rain for the city.

The first four months of the year saw just over 10 inches combined.

The previous record for May was slightly more than 7.5 inches, set in 1945.

Rainfall totals Wednesday ranged from 2 inches in Oswego to just under 3 inches in Schaumburg to close to 4 inches in Sleepy Hollow. The heaviest hit communities were Addison, Barrington Hills, Hoffman Estates, Elmhurst and Villa Park.

The good news is, there looks to be some dry days ahead for the Chicago area.
