Snow to Fall on Chicago Area Throughout Weekend

The Chicago area is set see accumulating snowfall this weekend starting Friday night with watches and warnings popping up in areas east of Chicago. 

Light snow is expected to develop in northern counties before it slides south, covering much of the Chicago area. 

The snowfall will likely continue into Saturday morning. It is forecast to end early in the metro area but lake effect snow showers will continue in northwest Indiana through the afternoon.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for LaPorte County in Indiana, warning of heavy and blowing snow with up to 9 inches of accumulation possible in some spots, according to the National Weather Service. 

In Illinois, however, only an inch or two of snow is expected for most, but up to 3 inches could be seen along the lakefront. 

Temperatures stay cold through the weekend, with highs in the mid- to upper-20s Saturday and low- to mid-30s Sunday. 

The chance for snow returns on and off throughout next week.
