Sox Park Metra Station Opening Soon

Come baseball season, the CTA Red Line won't be the only train dropping off White Sox fans to U.S. Cellular Field.

Metra announced at its board meeting Friday morning plans to open a new 35th Street Station on the Rock Island line.

The line runs from Joliet through Mokena, Tinley Park, Oak Forest and Blue Island.

Metra officials say the station will open in time for the Sox home opener on April 7. Keep an eye on Metra's website for the stop's schedule to be released as early as Friday.

The $12 million dollar project began in July 2009 and was funded with $5 million in federal money secured by U.S. Rep. Bobby L. Rush (D-Chicago) and $7 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, according to Metra.
